Memorial Day Weekend

Velda and I went to the cabin over Memorial Day weekend.

Many of the flowers were out in full bloom including wild rhododendrons.

Japanese Irises

Azaleas and non-native rhododendrons

Timing was good for color at the cabin.

Things are starting to grow in the garden area, which was expanded last weekend.  We took a 1/2 wine barrel and made it into a small herb garden with cilantro, basil, and parsley.

The weather was partially overcast, cool, and breezy.  The sun peaked through to cast a nice glow to the water on Memorial Day morning.

Since the weather was good for working outside we tackled  a variety of projects.   Of course we pulled some weeds.  We cut down a small tree that had died, did some trimming along the driveway and some trimming along the trail.  We now have another new huge pile of debris to burn.

We continued working on the new sitting area.

We continued working on repairing the first switchback on the trail.

The staging area for landscape bricks (was 36 medium blocks and 24 large blocks) is now empty so we need to start refilling the staging area for the next phase.

Our bodies are very tired and very sore but we are very happy because it was a beautiful and productive weekend.  Ron gets to cross off more things on his list.
