Family Time on the Water

On Thursday, Scott, Allison, James, Chris, Millena, Velda, and I went out boating. Of course we tried some crabbing.

James did some praying for more snacks.  He is quite a chow hound.  Doesn't he look like a contented little king?

After we dropped the pots, we stopped at Blake Island.

Chris had some fun with James.  Allison was afraid the tailess fish would give James nightmares.   James thinks Uncle Chris is very funny.

And James really enjoyed it.

After a couple of hours, Velda and Allison left and Scott.s brother Kevin and his brother in-law joined us on the boat.

The water was alot rougher so Velda and Allison was glad they left.  The  crabbing was successful.

We caught some huge starfish as well.

We boated past the shipyards where Scott and Kevin work.

We saw a number of ferries.

We have never seen sea lions this big.  They must be feasting on all the salmon.

Visit to G-G's

Saturday, James, Velda and I traveled to visit GG.  It was a long ride made even longer by all the road construction.  The little guy tried very hard to stay awake but the heat and long road trip finally won out.  He feel asleep right when we were pulling into GG's street.   We picked up G-G to go to lunch.  We thought he would wake up when we carried him into the restaurant - nope!

Or when we carried him out - not a chance!

Or when we carried him into GG's house - still out!

We had to wake him up cause GG was getting sadder and sadder seeing all her play time with James dwindling while he was snoozing.  It took a while to get fully awake so he and GG  could read a book.

Since he totally missed out on lunch, we gave him  a snack and then James let GG know it was time to go outside.  He brings the cane to GG.

He helped G-G water plants.

James took time out to play some pick-up basketball with the neighborhood boys.
They tried hard to block his shot.

He played with the statue in GG's yard.

But then James spotted the rabbits that hang around GG's yard.

And then the chase was on...

And on...    And on...

After we left GG's, we stopped at the car show in the parking lot close to GG's.  They were some very nice cars from the 40's, 50's, and 60's.  James liked this one and said, 'Mine!'  and "In, In".

And he liked the next one and said, 'Mine!'  And the next one...

Morning Visitors

Velda went out to the garden this morning before church.  She yelled for the camera which usually means we have four legged visitors or some other wildlife in the yard.

Nope we had two legged visitors slowly passing overhead.

They were so close that Velda had a conversation with the people in the basket.  They told her that we had nice landscaping.  She thought they would land in our yard but ended up barely going over the trees in the back yard.

They slowly disappeared behind the trees.   It was a welcome interruption to our morning routine.  We have not had hot air balloons going over the house for years.

Crabbing Part II

On Sunday we tried crabbing again.  We set the pots.

Since it was such a beautiful day we decided to go cruising.  James was giving Grandpa diretions.

We stopped and did some exploring.

Velda and James checked the shore for shells and rocks

This is clam digging made easy.  Scott and Allison found lots of clams sitting on the beach.  The clams had to be returned to the beach since there was a red tide warning after they checked the hotline.

James and Scott had fun on the tube.  They were being towed at record speed.

Tricked you.   Velda had fun pulling them around not the boat.

Allison tried the tube but as you can tell by her expression the water was very cold even with the temperature being in the 90's.

James just said Brrr!!!  He wanted out right now!

We had fair luck crabbing.  One large dungeness and 12 rock crabs.

Crabbing Part 1

On Saturday, we took the boat out for crabbing near the Hood Canal Bridge.  Kevin, Scott's brother assisted us.

We set the pots. The salt water made the little sailor very hungry and he had multiple snacks all day long.  It's amazing how much he can eat.

Since it was such a beautiful day-in the 90's, we decided to drive up to Port Ludlow to tour around.

There were a lot of sailboats.

Before we pulled the pots,  Kevin (Scott’s brother) verified the regulations.

We were lucky to catch some crabs which were legal.  The dungeness crab were hard to come by and we got mostly rock crabs.

James kept a safe distance.  We asked him what do you do with the crab and he smiled and said, ‘Eat them!’  Sooo cute!  James kept telling Scott to pull up "More crabbie Daddy".

Velda cleaned the crab with a little supervision.

Scott cooked them.  His outdoor pot worked great!

Kristina (Kevin's wife), Scott and Velda shelled the crab.  Scott did the most!  Thanks Scott!

Allison made a very nice salad from the greens from her garden.

Allison made terrific crab melt sandwiches.   Yum!

We all enjoyed the fruits of our labor.  Connor and James sampled our cooking too.  We ate everything from land to sea.  Our dessert was homemade apple crisp from the apples just picked on Friday on our apple tree.
