Labor Day Weekend

Over Labor Day weekend, Velda and I stayed at the cabin.

Since it was the last weekend for crabbing, I tried crabbing with the small row boat.  We put the boat in at a small launch site near the cabin.  We can only launch at very high tide.

I rowed it out in the morning.

In the early evening,  I rowed out to pick up the traps and crabs.  Yes, that is me out in the canal in the row boat pulling up the traps.  The water was smooth and there were a couple of sailboats to keep me company.  Since it was the end of the season, there were not many keepers but we got three dungeness crabs to go along with the king salmon that Velda was making for dinner.

Velda is holding the row boat while I back the truck and trailer in to load the boat.

After we loaded the boat on the trailer, other neighbors arrived to launch their kayaks for an early evening on the water.  It was a beautiful evening and the water was still.

Our friends, Larry and Eileen came over to spend the day and we took a walk through the neighbor's fern grotto and stream.

Eileen helped Velda make dinner.  She's cutting up the Japanese pears from our tree.

Which included the crab we caught.

We were also able to attend the Holly Community Club annual fund raiser and drink wine, have shrimp cocktails and eat dessert.   Over the weekend we had a great visit with friends and relatives as well as enjoying the 70 degree plus weather.  It is hard to believe we are already in September.
